The GB Bulldogs came within a whisker of a first major title in the 2013 AFL Europe Championships final, but were shattered by a brilliant snapped goal from the Irish Warriors, seconds before the siren.
Playing some really good footy through the group stages, the Bulldogs defeated the hotly favoured Danish team, before a comfortable win over Germany and a solid performance over Sweden put the team into the Grand Final against the European and International Champion Irish Warriors.
The match was fantastic, coast to coast footy, hard contest at the ball and great passages of team play and individual brilliance. With a 5 point lead going into the final minute, the lads gave everything they have, but couldn't prevent the last kick going through. Heartbreaking for the team, but a terrific endorsement of coaches' development around England, Wales and Scotland of their young talent.
Once again, the best European players from across England, Scotland and Wales met to contest the one day national tournament. After 5 rounds of closely hard fought footy, the West Midlands team defeated the Central and Northern Warriors to take their first title.
Hosted this year by the Birmingham Bears, the Brit Cup was sponsored by ACM Sports, a company founded and run by a British footy player and doing great work supporting the local game, supplying kit, footys and other game equipment.
AFL England greatly appreciates the support that ACM Sports gives the game and you can find out more about the products they supply at www.acmsports.co.uk.
AFL leagues all over England are looking for new umpires for the 2013 season and beyond.
If you have umpired previously, have played and are looking to umpire or are interested in coming on board, please contact the Umpire Co-ordinator at email@example.com.
An umpires workshop was held in Reading in April, including theory sessions as well as practical application at a pre-season match. We hope to run many more such events and are working toward every club having at least one qualified umpire in their ranks, to support the development of the game in the best manner.
If you're interested in getting an introduction into Aussie Rules umpiring, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to register your interest now.
